When to Splurge ?

Often you ask us if you should consider spending a little bit more in particular locations.   As we know our hotels so intimately, and book directly with managers and owners, certain rooms in certain hotels are very much worth consideration. Include them all in a three-week trip and you will have something close to a dream Insider’s Italy holiday.

Venice.  The corner top floor junior suite, #510, with a superb view (360 degrees across Venice and its Lagoon) and a terrace…is worth the price, which is in fact not exceptionally expensive at all. 380 – 580 Euro per night, with taxes, breakfast, service.

Venice.   Our favorite suite in this five-star is currently being redone, and will preserve all of its extraordinary charm and Venetian character.  It has terraces with extensive views across the Venetian lagoon.   We could spend the day on a chaise here, watching the light scintillate off the most beautiful city in Italy.   Seamless service.  Superb food.   A place to come just to “be”.  4,345 Euro in peak high season.

Our Chianti Classico inn in Tuscany, for one of two historic suites in the main pink villa.  Your rooms date from the 1500s and are as extraordinary as they are comfortable.  Views are serene, uplifting, unforgettable.  The Renaissance gardens are yours to stroll though at any time of day, and the pool below the rooms, flanked by lavender and rosemary, will likely be used just by you.  550 Euro in peak high season.

Rome.  A three-star hotel where the penthouse has a beautiful and spacious terrace where you can easily spend the day.  All of Rome is at your feet, and the Pantheon dome is so close that you feel you can touch it.   Washington DC clients have taken this top floor suite nine years in a row, for two weeks at a time.  460 Euro all year round, less for stay’s a week or more.

Umbria. A handpicked room in our Umbrian inn jewel, serene and with glorious views, which we think ideal for a vacation within a vacation.  The perfect pool is here.  A children’s haven.  560 Euro in peak high season.

Positano. For pampering and for warm, professional service that consistently exceeds your expectations, a sea view junior suite with terrace at our favorite boutique hotel.   Again, as at every other hotel we mention here, we know the manager here and can hand pick your rooms.  1,980 Euro in peak season.

Capri.  A sea view suite with terrace at our tiny boutique four-star.   The location is dreamy, and so are the rooms.  Ideal for honeymoons and for serenity, for walking and dreaming.  620 Euro in peak high season.
